Ataa Oko: drawings 2012

Friendly spirits

Although Ataa Oko was now getting very weak and was only able to sit upright for a short time, he continued to draw almost every day. From April to October he drew mainly on large size papers in the format of 59 x 84 cm. Many of these sketches were then beautifully coloured by his talented son Kofi. But at the end of November Ataa Oko’s health conditions got worse and he passed away on the 8th December in his house in La. His son Kofi succumbed only a few months later to a very serious illness. Many of Ataa Oko’s last large sketches therefore remained uncoloured.
