Human figures and religious rituals

In the context of Regula Tschumi’s research about the traditional religion of the Ga, she asked Ataa Oko to draw religious ceremonies on larger paper formats. The artist did not find it easy switching from the small sketches of coffins to larger paper formats and new pictorial themes. But he made again a fast progress and soon developed a new visual language.

Coffin miniatures

Before Paa Joe moved in 2008 from Nungua to Pombiman, coffin miniatures were only made in his studio by his apprentices. They were allowed to sell their pieces to tourists so that they got some pocket money.
