Figurative coffins & figurative palanquins

As Regula Tschumi started around 2006 her research about the figurative palanquins, Ataa Oko began in the same year to draw her not only figurative coffins, but also figurative palanquins with chiefs sitting in them. But initially, drawing people was a big challenge for him.

Coffin miniatures

Before Paa Joe moved in 2008 from Nungua to Pombiman, coffin miniatures were only made in his studio by his apprentices. They were allowed to sell their pieces to tourists so that they got some pocket money.
