Paa Joe (* 1947) developed into the most famous coffin artist of Ghana in recent years. He learned his carpentry work from 1962 to 1974 in the workshop of Kane Kwei in Teshie. In 1976, he opened his own studio in Nungua and moved in 2008 to Pobiman. Today he works mainly with his son Jacob and with Tawiah and Ben, two of his former masters, in Pobiman.
Since the 1990s, Paa Joe’s figurative coffins have been shown in numerous museum exhibitions around the world, including the Pompidou Center in Paris, in «Les Magiciens de la terre».
