Multifunctional metal bowls in Ghana
The creative use of metal bowls
In Ghana, metal bowls are omnipresent. They are mainly used by market women to either transport or store their goods. But these vessels are sometimes used in completely different and creative ways, and that’s what this series with title “Multifunctional metal bowls” is about. For example, market women sometimes use their bowls to take a break during their work. Then they sit or even sleep in them. Carried over their head, the metal bowls become improvised helmets that may protect the wearers from the hot sun or from heavy rain. Children, on the other hand, like to play with empty bowls. And held in front of a body these metal vessels may turn into protective shields behind which market women and children sometimes hide.
