A coffin for the Centre Pompidou

A project in collaboration with Saâdane Afif and Kudjoe Affutu

In collaboration with the artist Saâdane Afif, Kudjoe Affutu created a coffin in the shape of the Center Pompidou. R. Tschumi supervised and documented this complicated project on behalf of Saâdane Afif during its formation in Ghana.

The coffin was shown in 2010 in Saâdane Afif’s exhibition in the Centre Pompidou in Paris and in 2012 in Afif’s second exhibition in the Museum for Modern Art Zollamt in Frankfurt.

Coffin miniatures

Before Paa Joe moved in 2008 from Nungua to Pombiman, coffin miniatures were only made in his studio by his apprentices. They were allowed to sell their pieces to tourists so that they got some pocket money.
